Missouri House Speaker Scandal Continues On
(Jefferson City) Missouri House Speaker Dean Plocher is refusing to address a public report that investigated allegations of ethical misconduct against him.
Despite evidence of no wrongdoing, the report accuses him of obstructing the investigation and preventing witnesses from being able to testify during the investigation.
At a news conference, Plocher shut down repeated attempts to address the report, he chastised reporters and abruptly ended the gathering.
There have been no committee meetings since the report has been made public.
Republican members of the legislature soundly rejected the report, along with a recommended ‘letter of disapproval’ and tweaks to chamber and committee rules to allow committee investigations of the House speaker.
After this scandal began last year, in a strange twist, Plocher fired his Chief of Staff Kenny Ross and replaced him with Marble Hill resident and former House Speaker Rod Jetton who knows all about political scandal.
Jetton, who led the House from 2005 to 2009, pleaded guilty in 2011 to misdemeanor assault while admitting he hit and choked a woman who was not his wife during a sexual encounter back in 2009.
Jetton was sentenced to probation.
